Training Rule #1
If you train hard then this one is for you.
My number 1 rule for people who train hard and for than 4 times per week.
“EVERY SESSION YOU MISS IS ONE YOU CAN’T GET BACK"
Before you close the page please hear me out and learn why I say this.
The main reason I say this is because if you try to make up a session then it effects your entire week.
It’s not just about changing a day or not having rest day but it will then have a flow on effect into the rest of your week. If you have a rest day planned and you skip it then it effects your ability to recover. Or maybe it means you don’t have as much of recovery between sessions which means your intensity drops in the sessions after. There are a number of factors that go into this.
I am not saying that you can’t reschedule your week because you know that your going to have to miss a session. If you look ahead and notice that your going to have to miss a session and you are able to reschedule ahead of time then that’s all good. But if you get to the day and decide to miss then session then I’m sorry it’s gone, you can’t make it up.
There is a lot going on this time of year. It is off-season for all winter sports, it’s a time to not only rest and have a break but also work on your weaknesses and strength your strengths. But it is also a very social time of year, most people will have multiple events on. If your using the off-season to prepare and get a head start on season 2025 (Which is what the off-season is for, rest yes but start building your base) then you need to be looking ahead at what events you may have on. Because if you miss a session then sorry but it’s gone, you can’t get it back.
Let’s use an example of AFL Grand Final (As it happened on the weekend). You may have planned to go to the gym or a light run on Sunday but you also went to your mates place on Saturday to watch the game. While watching the game you decided to have a few drinks, which lead to you going out and not getting home until 3am. Although you didn’t have a heap to drink you are understandably tired. You’ve got a decision to make, do I go train? or do I just sleep all day? If you do decide to sleep all day and catch up on some much needed sleep then your session is gone. If you try to make it up later on then you will stuff up your entire training load for the next week. I am not saying that there is something wrong with going out and missing a training session, these things happen sometimes (Key word being sometimes, let it happen once but not every week). But this is a decision you have to make and understand that your missing out on getting your training in.
EVERY SESSION YOU MISS IS ONE YOU CAN’T GET BACK.
